My name is Monika and after eight years of teaching English I’ve decided to share my more or less wild ideas concerning the process of turning innocent people to the Dark Side – eventually (mwahahaha). Since stereotypical role of a teacher is to oppose a student (at least in non-teaching eyes), I have gladly accepted the exaggerated role of ย Evil Incarnated much to both mine and my students’ amusement. It really makes things easier in a typical whining situation where the students go ‘ooooohhh, whyyyyy soooo muuuuch homewoooooork’ and one simply states ‘because I’m evil, that’s why’. Not much left for discussion, admit it.
I’ve worked in public schools in Poland and private language schools both in my country and in Dublin, Ireland and I think I’ve actually covered all age groups so far, except for kindergarten children and people over 70 years old. The surprising ย thing is that I really enjoy working as a teacher – tried different jobs, so I’m quite sure that’s the good one! Still, I have loads to learn and hope my blog will encourage the readers to give me some hints – teaching is like an ocean so give me a helping hand whenever you can.
There will be traces of my hobbies on the blog, I’m afraid (it’s unavoidable, huh?). I like scrapbooking, cooking and am a faithful servant of glorious Siberian cats – Yossa (named after Yossarian) and Nyarlathotep (yes, I like H.P.Lovecraft and wait until the stars are right).
My favourite tool in teaching and learning is the Internet, so you may expect some lesson plans and activities based on the various sources, but I shall also make a nice base of my favourites.
OK, let’s do it!
Hi Monika, I have just found your blog while looking for some teaching ideas and I fell in love with it! Do you have a personal e-mail address so I can directly write to you?
Thank you ๐ You may find me on facebook ๐
Hello, Monica! I’m happy to discover your blog. You are really creative! I’m going to use some of your ideas in my lessons. Thank for sharing!
Thanks ๐ That’s really motivating ๐ I hope I’ll come up with more ideas ๐
Hi Monica!
I’ve come across your blog and I’m delighted to find lots of interesting ideas and tips!
Thank you so much!
Hi Monica, I discovered your blog via the FutureLearn course. I understand you teach online. Would you mind telling me who you work for? I am very interested in teaching online. Can you recommend any particular sites you have experience with who are reputable? There seems to be so many companies out there. It is difficult to know who is reputable. Heaven knows how a student could make an informed decision when I find it hard!!
Well, you can check my profile on Facebook or LinkedIn to check with whom I am working ๐ And sure, I can write a post about getting to online teaching – thanks for inspiring me ๐
